Wigan Warriors 54Widnes Vikings 12WIDNES Vikings were undone by a Josh Charnley hat-trick against league leaders Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday night.Shaun Wane sent his Warriors out for revenge following their shock defeat at the Stobart Stadium Halton earlier in the season. And they fired out of the blocks with Charnley opening the scoring with just three minutes played, touching down in the right corner after Ben Cross had been penalised for offside.Wigan extended their lead on ten minutes when Chris Deans missed tackle allowed Michael McIlorum to dart his way to the line. And things looked ominous for the Vikings when George Carmont made it 16-0 with a converted try five minutes later. But the Vikings showed great character to stem the flow and build pressure on the Wigan line for the first time in the match. And when Paul McShane sent Ben Cross in for only the second try of his career on 19 minutes, the Vikings were right back in the match. They had a great opportunity to close the gap even further when Pickersgill broke from deep before offloading to Joe Mellor. But the Vikings on-loan Warrior was tackled inches away from the line. The Vikings continued on the front foot but were unable to turn their pressure into points before Wigan marched up the other end of the field and sub Paul Prescott touched down after Patrick Ah Van conceded a sloppy penalty for holding on for the tackle.Moments later the home side were in again, with Anthony Gelling touching down in the corner to all but wrap up the points.Denis Betts' men were handed a lifeline however when Mellor intercepted Brett Finch's loose pass to touch down against his parent club right on the stroke of half-time to make the score 28-12 at thebreak.
