Ex-Widnes Vikings boss Tony Chambers dies

FORMER Widnes RLFC chairman Tony Chambers has died following what the club have described as a ‘short illness’.

Tony was viewed by many as the driving force behind the modernisation of Naughton Park to the Halton Community Stadium in the mid-1990s and then led the club to Super League in 2001.

Tony first became interested in the club in 1975 when he saw Widnes defeat Warrington at Wembley.

He leaves behind his wife, Karen. Details of his funeral will be announced shortly by Widnes Vikings.
