Fate is in our hands, says boss

STEVE McCormack has stressed Widnes are still controlling their own destiny in terms of qualification for the play-offs.

McCormack is hoping to celebrate his new contract by securing three points that could push Widnes into the top-six of The Co-operative National League One.

McCormack said: “Not to get anything out of last week’s game (at Leigh) was very disappointing.

“We’ve got three games left and they’re all very important. It’s still in our own hands and if we get into the top six we can shake a few teams up.

“Featherstone are a good side. They turned us over a few weeks ago and they’re a quality side.

“It’s our last home game and it’s important we go out with a bang and set ourselves up for the remainder of the season.”

Rovers’ James Houston and Richard Blakeway are available again after serving one-match suspensions in the 24-31 home defeat by Batley Bulldogs.

Featherstone coaching consultant Jon Sharp said: “We were disappointed with Sunday’s performance and it’s important we bounce back with a good performance at Widnes.

“With three games to go it’s a big game for both clubs. We’re both outside the top six at the moment but we both have ambitions of getting in there by the end of the season.”
