Mark Smith: We'll prove the RFL wrong

INSPIRATIONAL Vikings skipper Mark Smith believes players will now be out to prove a point to the RFL in their remaining games this season.

The former Wigan Warriors hooker, who has been out of action with an arm injury since June, believes team-mates will see the Super League setback as just the latest hurdle to overcome in a battling season.

Smith said: “It’s quite surreal and difficult to put into words how everyone is feeling and it will take everyone a few days for it to sink in.

“But as far as I’m concerned, everyone here is in it for the long haul, we have a good coach and no-one has any plans to go anywhere.

“We know we have a massive point to prove, but we have been dedicated and battling against it from day one this season.

“It would have been the icing on the cake to get in to Super League at the end of it, but we’ll take it on the chin and get back to concentrating on playing as soon as possible.”

AN argument broke out in the tunnel area of The Shay on Sunday after Vikings’ nailbiting draw with Halifax.

Halifax club doctor Robert Mills allegedly took offence to comments made by Widnes head physio Sam Whiteson before Vikings head coach Steve McCormack’s calmed matters down.
