McCormack: We can’t undo all the good work
WIDNES boss Steve McCormack says the Vikings’ double winning start to the Co-operative National League One season will count for nothing if they don’t get a result against visiting Whitehaven this Sunday, writes IAN CHEVEAU.
McCormack goes head to head with his former club (ko 3pm), stressing his side needs to ‘back up’ their fine performance against Leigh with a similar effort.
He said: “We can’t afford to undo the good start we have got off to. We set ourselves the objective of getting two wins from two and we have managed to do that.
“The Leigh game was what I would call a very hard-working performance. We had a lot of belief in ourselves and, after last week when a lot of people had written us off, we've competed really well in the last couple of games and we got what we deserved.
“We need to keep the same intensity up against Whitehaven. It will be a very tough game. They will be looking to get a win under their belt but we have worked hard this week in training and are well prepared for them.”
Whitehaven have made a poor start to the campaign after coming unstuck against Featherstone Rovers in the opening game and then at home to Batley Bulldogs.
The Vikings have already landed six points which puts them still three points adrift at the bottom of the table due to the minus nine points the RFL gave the club following administration.
However, a comprehensive win against Haven could see Vikings climb above them on the ladder.
The Vikings suffered only bumps and bruises from their Easter weekend clashes and McCormack will pick from a fully-fit squad.
But loan signing Jason Crookes has been re-called by Bradford Bulls after injuries ravaged Steve McNamara’s squad.
Crookes didn’t figure over the weekend for the Bulls and McCormack hasn’t ruled out a future return for the talented youngster.
