VIKINGS’ sporting director and former Super League star Terry O’Connor is coming out of “retirement” for a run-out in this year’s Flora London Marathon.
He will join ex-St Helens full-back Steve Prescott, who is battling a rare stomach cancer but will also pound the streets of the capital to raise funds for Christie hospital in Manchester, where he is being treated, and the RFL Benevolent Fund.
O’Connor, who away from his Vikings duties is these days a Sky Sports pundit, admits to feeling nervous about the excursion on Sunday, April 13.
He said: “I got the phone call saying I’d got the place and my Adam’s apple was going up and down! But I’m looking forward to it – it’s one of those things you want to take on.”
Former St Helens captain Chris Joynt and one-time Widnes full-back David Lyon are also involved in the fundraising effort.
