Players up for the cup (of coffee)

WIDNES Vikings have already won the Northern Rail Cup and are eyeing up the Co-operative National League One Grand Final winners' trophy.

But these aren't the only cups on their minds. The club this week supported Macmillan Cancer Support in the launch of their flagship fundraiser, The World's Biggest Coffee Morning, 2007.

Vikings are calling for as many people as possible to host a coffee morning within their local area.

Marie Travers and Aimee Scally, the fundraising team for Halton, are working hard to encourage people to take part and help them reach their target of £20,000.

Aimee said: 'We would like to thank the Widnes Vikings for giving time to support Macmillan and The World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

'We hope that as many people as possible are able to take part in the event and help us to reach the £20,000 target for people affected by cancer in Halton.

'Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. We provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and campaign for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all - one in three of us will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives. We can all help.'

It's easy to take part - simply register, decide on a suitable location (at the office, at home, at school, anywhere you like!) and invite workmates, friends and family to make a donation in exchange for the coffee they drink and the treats they eat.

Everyone who registers will be automatically entered into a free prize draw to win a signed Vikings shirt.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is one of the UK's largest fundraising events with an estimated two million people raising their mugs for Macmillan last year.

This year's event takes place on Friday, September 28. Of course, if this is not convenient, you can choose a date to suit your diary.
