Loz Wildbore sent off as Widnes Vikings lose to Oldham

WIDNES suffered a 22-20 Northern Rail Cup defeat at the hands of Oldham in a disappointing first game of the 2009 season.

Vikings were forced to play with only 12 men after full-back Loz Wildbore was given his marching orders for striking an opponent just before the break.

Boos echoed around the Stobart Stadium Halton after the home side conceded 14 points to the left boot of Roughyeds’s Andy Ballard, largely due to a succession of short-range penalties being awarded.

Gavin Dodd and Anthony Thackeray ran in what turned out to be consolation tries for the Vikings.

Coach Steve McCormack said: “We can blame the referee all we want but we simply weren’t good enough and only really have ourselves to blame.”
