RUNCORN Town suffered their fourth home defeat of the season in the clash of the day in the North West Counties League, with Ramsbottom United returning to Lancashire with all three points after a 3-1 victory.

Rammy took the lead with the first real attack of the game after five minutes.

A ball down the right was flicked on by Lee Gaskell into Jordan Hulme. He advanced into the box before slotting coolly under Karl Wills with the ball trickling into the net.

Town went close to equalising when Mark Keddie's shot from inside the box hit the inside of the post and rolled across the line before being cleared, but three minutes into the second half Rammy doubled their advantage. Grant Spencer's cross from the right was headed unchallenged by Andy Dawson to give the visitors a two goal lead.

The defecit was reduced after 59 minutes with substitute Jason Carey scoring for Town.

A quick throw by Wills set Warren Bellew off down the left and he played a perfect ball into Carey who nudged the ball past keeper Grant Shenton.

Twice Town went close to equalising, Shenton pulling off two stunning close range saves from headers by Paul Shanley and Danny Dalton, but the game was over as stoppage time arrived with Rammy hitting their third goal of the game.

Jon Robinson picked up the ball midway inside Town's half and played a perfect through ball for fellow substitute Rob Grimes who blasted the ball past Wills from 10 yards to clinch all three points.
