SIMON BURTON captured a long-term target this week as goal scoring winger Paul Shanley bolstered Runcorn Town’s title chasing squad.
Voted player of the season at Atherton Collieries last season, Shanley impressed Burton in performances against Town and the manager admitted he’s been monitoring the young winger since pre-season.
Furthermore, Burton believes the new man can add goals from midfield for Town, who are already joint top scorers in the North West Counties Premier Division.
“He can play either side or as a centre forward so he will be good for us and give us plenty of options,” said Burton. “I’ve been chasing him since pre-season when he was at Skelmersdale and he was good against us when we played against Atherton last year.
“He’s already got 12 for Atherton this season, so you know he’s got real quality.”
Another Town man amongst the goals is Mark Keddie. The midfield man continued his hot streak to notch his sixth in ten outings during Saturday’s FA Vase second round win at Glasshoughton Welfare. Form which drew special praise from the manager.
“He’s working hard in central midfield but he’s getting into the box and scoring goals too, so I’m really pleased with him,” added Burton.
“His work rate is phenomenal and he takes a lot of pressure off others by doing what he does. I think he’s on 10 for the season now, which is exceptional.”
