RUNCORN TOWN cruised through to the Third Round of the FA Vase with a 2-0 victory at Baris Northern Counties East League Division One side Glasshoughton Welfare.

Mark Keddie put Runcorn ahead in the 23rd minute of the game with a precision header inside the box from Scott Burton's cross from the right. Warren Bellew doubled the lead after 59 minutes, blasting the ball into the empty net after the keeper saved Jason Carey's fierce shot.

The Premier Division leaders could have had more with Danny Dalton heading against the bar, Burton seeing a free kick rebound back of the post, and Bellew seeing a shot blocked after rounding the keeper. Nonetheless, manager Simon Burton was delighted with the manner of the victory.

"This was a difficult tie on paper, but we thoroughly deserved our victory today. The last month has not seen us play well really and we have been grinding out the results, so I told the lads beforehand to just go out, play their own game and enjoy it.

"I was delighted with their response. The work rate that every one of them put in was superb and we didn't let Glasshoughton get a foothold on the game at all from the very first whistle.

"Every player won their own individual battles today, and I don't think Glasshoughton would have complained had we scored another couple. I am delighted with them."
