Runcorn Linnets: Wincham Park team is ground down by Millers in Vodkat League revenge

Runcorn Linnets 0 New Mills 4

ANOTHER second-half meltdown saw Linnets fall victims to a strong New Mills outfit in the wind and rain.

Eleven of the 14 goals Runcorn have conceded in their last three Vodkat League Premier games have come after the interval. But manager Steve Wilkes says that isn’t down to fitness but players losing heart.

“I think what we have seen especially at Ramsbottom on Saturday was one or two heads going down after the second goal,” he said.

At the weekend, Runcorn had the chances to put the game to bed but while they showed more spirit against the Millers, Wilkes’ men created no real opportunties.

But for keeper Phil Priestley, the visitors might have doubled their total.

As it was the Derbyshire club’s freescoring midfield talisman Carlos Meakin netted either side of half-time, The same player later escaped a card of either colour for a lunge on Matthew Ashcroft, which could easily have earned him red. Robert Lloyd’s screamer and a late Tommy Turner goal completed New Mills’ revenge for August’s home defeat by Linnets.
