Runcorn Linnets FC: Building a club to be proud of

LAST week was a very significant one in the development of Runcorn Linnets FC.

After many months of negotiations, the club was able to issue a joint statement with Halton Borough Council, which signals our intention to return to Runcorn for the start of the 2010-11 season.

Much hard work has gone on behind the scenes since the club re-formed back in 2006 and the club has been extremely grateful for the patience and understanding shown by fans.

We hope supporters will understand the need we had to keep our negotiations confidential, until we were able to announce a positive outcome.

Tuesday’s meeting at club sponsors, The Waterloo Hotel in Runcorn gave us the opportunity to explain the reasons behind our decision to locate the club at the Halton Sports complex.

We continue to work with the council with regard to the planning of the new complex and we hope discussions with the local community will show the benefits we hope the club can bring back to the area and the town in general. It has always been our aim to make the club a central part of the community..

We must not lose sight of the need to continue to run the day-to-day operational side of the club. We are more than grateful for any assistance that can be offered in terms of sponsorship or practical help. Our weekly tote is successful, but we are always on the look out for more outlets and players. A number of sponsorship opportunities are detailed on our website.

This is the time for local businesses to consider how they could be part of a successful venture.

The club would like to build new partnerships for the long-term and to cement those we have. We are immensely grateful to those sponsors who have shown their trust in us since the outset.

Opportunities are also still available to contribute to our ground fund. Perhaps local companies could consider becoming a ‘Ground Founder’ with a permanent display board erected at our new ground.

We have been very lucky to have such excellent landlords at Wincham Park and we thank the directors of Witton Albion FC for their support. It will never be forgotten.

But now is the time for us to think about the future. Halton Borough Council and the Football Foundation have shown their trust in us and offered excellent support.

We want to build a football club again that the town and borough can be proud of.

If you want to be part of our success, contact us via the contact page at www.runcornlinnetsfc.co.uk, write to PO Box 268, Runcorn, WA7 5WQ or ring the club phoneline on 07050 801733.
