RUNCORN Linnets utility man Brian Walsh broke his right foot in Tuesday’s Cheshire Senior Cup victory.
Manager Steve Wilkes’s worst fears over the injury were confirmed with the news Walsh has broken a metatarsal.
Walsh joined this summer from fellow Vodkat Leaguers Flixton as a right full-back but has also played on the opposite side of defence.
He was substituted midway through the second half of the 3-1 win at Barton Stadium, having for the first time started in right midfield.
The initial assessment carried out by sports therapist Peter Gordon didn’t auger well.
“Peter thinks he has done a metatarsal,” said boss Wilkes after the game.
“The foot has blown up really quickly and gone black and blue.”
Walsh joins a casualty list which also includes skipper Steve Cunningham, out for eight weeks after a shin injury turned septic, requiring surgery.
Central defender Thomas Boden will be sidelined for two more weeks and midfieldman Jay Edwards perhaps even longer – both are nursing leg injuries, which left them on crutches.
