LAST Monday night in the Widnes and District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued with round eight being played.
The Majors Arms at home to Widnes RUFC, took a well earned win, as they took all nine games. The winning players were, Daz Attwood, Andy O’Grady and Matty Welding in the singles. The pairs then followed with Luke Carey and Tom Spencer, Nicky Duff and Daz Attwood, and Tony O’Grady and Ste Ogburn. Singles Luke Carey, Tom Spencer and Nicky Duff then completed the whitewash.
The Mill Brow SC at home to Widnes Bowling Club took the first game through Dave Powell. Harry Ellis then matched this for the Bowler. However the Brow proceeded to take the next six games through Chris Taylor, Carl Hackney and John Glover, Alan Sutton and Chris Taylor, Dave Jones and Peter Mason, and Alan Sutton and John Glover. The Bowling Club took the final game through Ray Hatton, but the Brow were the victors.
The RAOB at home to the Wellington conceded the first three games but the Buffs rallied, taking two in a row to narrow the gap. The Wellington carried on chipping away but the Buffs were still hot on their heels as Ray Dutton added a further win to their tally. However, the Buffs hopes faded as a Rob Woods win in the penultimate game took the match for the Wellington.
Friday night saw the Mill Brow SC Cup first round played.
At the Mill Brow SC, Farnworth SC C took on team mates Farnworth SC B. The B team took the first game but the C team’s Alan Sutton and Chris Taylor took the next two games and the match for Farnworth SC C.
In Round Two, Farnworth SC C took on the Mill Brow SC A, who took the first game through John McWhinnie, whilst Alan Sutton then levelled the score for Farnworth SC C. The final game and the match then went to the Mill Brow A courtesy of Mark Harrison.
In the second round two match, the Birchfield B took on Widnes Bowling Club A, and The Bowler swept the board, taking all three games and the match through Tex Bowles, Rob Farrington (180) and Tommy Robertson.
In round three, Widnes Bowling Club A took on The Mill Brow SC A with Tommy Robertson taking the final game and the match for the Bowling Club.
At Simms Cross Institute, round one saw the Stadium B take the first two games whilst HGSC A took the remaining game through B Sefton. In round two, the Stadium B took on the Mill Brow B, taking all three games. In the second round two match the Corpy Club B were beaten by the Majors A, who took on Halton Stadium B in round three, with the Stadium taking all three games and the match.
At the Corpy Club, round one saw the Wellington B take on the Moorfield SSC A. The Wellington took the first game before Moorfield drew level, but Wellington then took the match with a win through Karl Whitfield. In round two, the Wellington B went through unopposed as the Widnes RUFC B failed to show up. In the second round two match, Halton Stadium A took three in a row against the Corpy Club C, before beating Wellington B in round three.
At Widnes RUFC, the Cricketers Arms C took on team matesCricketers Arms B and it was no contest as the Cricketers Arms C took all three games and the match. In round two, the Cricketers C took the first game against Corpy A, who then took the next two games and the match. In the second round two match, Wellington A progressed at the expense of Simms Cross Institute B, but lost to Corpy Club A in round three.
At Moorfield SSC, the Mill Brow SC C took on Widnes Cricket Club A, and they won a game each before Rob Morris took the final game and the match for the Cricket Club A. In the second round one match Moorfield SSC C took all three games against Moorfield SSC B, but it was the Cricket Club A who progressed from round two after taking all three games and the match through Dean Morris, Daniel Morris and Rob Morris, whose opponent Ian Bason hit a 180.
At Farnworth SC, Hough Green Social Club C lost out to Widnes Cricket Club B, while RAOB A beat the Cricketers Arms A. In Round Two, RAOB A emerged the victors, taking all three games and the match through, Ray Dutton, Brian Dutton and Ged McPartland.
At the Birchfield, the Birchfield A took on Simms Cross Institute C. Ian Sharples and Trevor Chadwick gave the Birchfield the first two games, whilst G Owen took the final game for the Stute with an 18 dart display. In the second round one match, Widnes Bowling Club B took the first two games against Widnes RUFC A. In round two, the Birchfield A took on Widnes Bowling Club B and it was The Birchfield who showed they were on good form as they proceeded to take all three games and the match through Ian Sharples, Trevor Chadwick and Dave Herley (14 darts).
