Hockey: No seventh heaven as Brooklands gain revenge

Brooklands Ladies 3rds 2Runcorn Ladies 1

RUNCORN Ladies travelled to Brooklands, the West Manchester club, hoping for a repeat of their 7-0 victory in the home fixture earlier in the season.

After a nervy opening ten minutes, in which Brooklands dominated the possession, Runcorn began to take control and dominated the game for most of the remainder of the first half.

Andie Cole was at the heart of every attacking move and was very vocal in organising and encouraging the rest of the team.

She was also well supported in midfield by the hard working Lisa Janion.

Andie's efforts were rewarded after a typically strong run from the right flank took her into the penalty circle, from where she finished with a very well taken goal.

This goal gave Runcorn a deserved 1-0 half time lead.

Brooklands started the second half the stronger of the two teams.

After a lot of pressure from Runcorn found themselves two goals to one down midway through the second half.

Runcorn again started to dominate possession and pressurised Brooklands defence for most of the remaining quarter of the game.

Despite a number of great runs by Megan Sutch, and hard work from forwards Rosie Ainsworth & Stephanie Spencer, they were unable to score the equalising goal.

Youngster Bex Walker was awarded the player of the match award after a skilful and battling display.
