IN the Widnes & District Darts League Monday night saw round 12 of the Cheshire Roof Trusses 501 League.
Widnes RUFC, hosting the Corpy Club, saw the first game go to the Corpy Club via J Fisher. The RUFC came back, with three games through J Leather, K Glover and opening pair, J Winstanley & M Peach.
B Mercer & J Rawlinson recovered a point for the Corpy, only to see the RUFC’s A Griffiths & D Peach take it back. Things improved for the Corpy as Ian Argent and J Rawlinson levelled the score. The outcome was decided as RUFC’s B Smith took the final game and the match.
Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Eight Towers, conceded the first game to Joe Bamber. The Bowling Club then came back with a vengeance, taking four games through Ben Lyons, Tommy Robertson and pairs Tex Bowles & Tommy Robertson and Alex McGill & Harry Ellis. The Eight Towers’ Joe Bamber & Chris Walsh recovered a point, buit to no avail as the Bowler’s Harry Ellis took the next game, giving the Bowling Club the vital fifth point.
With the match already won in the Bowling Club’s favour it was no consolation to the Eight Towers as Chris Walsh and Chris Hall took the remaining two games.
The Sundowner St Marie’s at home to Halton Stadium, took the first game through R Woods. John Bowles levelled for the Stadium, only to see SM go ahead through Anthony Hall. The Stadium equalised again, this time via Alan Clark & Joe Price before going into the lead as they took the remaining five games and the match through John Bowles & John Bramald, Phil Corless & Kenny Murphy, Alan Magee, Hoe Batty and Darren Grant.
The RAOB at home to the Main Top, conceded the first two games to P Bennett and M Yates. Brian Dutton then recovered a point for the RAOB with a 15-darter. The Main Top’s opening pair, K Yeomans & M Yates, then widnened the gap again. This was to be a temporary inconvenience for the RAOB who rallied, taking the next five games and the match through Brian Dutton & Ray Dutton, Ged McPartland & Danny McPartland, Danny McPartland, Ged McPartland and Ray Dutton.
The Mill Brow SC at home to the Majors Arms, took the first three games via Dave Jones, Chris Taylor and Mark Harrison. The Majors then recovered two points with wins from Luke Carey & Nicky Duff and S Ogburn & T Spencer.
The Majors could not keep up this momentum and the Mill Brow surged ahead, taking the remaining four games and the match via Mark Harrison & Dave Jones, Paul Linger, Robbie Gorst and Alan Sutton.
ON Friday the Jack Adams Cup competition was played over two venues.
At the Mill Brow SC, Trevor Chadwick was looking dominant as he opened his match against Paul Linger with a 19-dart display.
Linger struck back to take the next two legs and win the first quarter-final.
Nicky Duff’s quarter-final was a formality as his opponent failed to show, and therefore went straight into the semi-final against Linger.
Linger took the opening semi-final leg in 16 darts, but when Duff equalised in a fortuitous game, it seemed to relax him as he then took the match with a superb 12-dart leg.
At Widnes Cricket Club, in the quarter-finals Joe Price took the first and Mike Howard the second, both 2-0. In the semi-final, Price and Howard took a leg each. Price emerged the victor as he took the final leg in 15 darts.
ALSO played on Friday night was the Mill Brow SC RTB League.
In Division One, Eight Towers outlasted the host Mill Brow SC.
Elswehere, Sundowner St Marie’s defeated The Corpy Club and Birchfield beat ROAB.
In Division Two, The Ball beat Hough Green SC and there were also wins for Simms Cross Institute, The Crows Nest and Widnes RUFC.
