WIDNES kickboxing club is celebrating after three of its members successfully achieved their black belts first degree passes last month.
Andy West, 40, from Widnes, passed successfully after training for three years under the instruction of Paul Lund, fourth degree black belt.
Andy had previously done many years of martial arts before starting at Widnes Kickboxing and now, after showing great commitment and dedication, he has passed his Black Belt with ease.
Sam Clayton, aged nine, and 11-year-old Jessica McGrath have trained at Widnes Kickboxing for three-to-four years and have shown great virtues as martial artists.
Both have helped instruct in junior classes at the club and now train alongside adults and club competitors as their skills are of a high enough standard.
Paul Lund said: “I am very proud to award Andy, Jessica and Sam their black belts.
“They are well deserved as they have trained very, very hard for their intense grading, which were assessed by myself and my wife Kru Kirsty Lund, and they have shown great charisma with other students at the club in passing on the art to others”.
The club now has 12 black belts who have trained and built up through the ranks and most now help teach at the club, which is now becoming a Black Belt Academy for Halton.
