ROWERS from the Runcorn Club turned out in force to secure a series of significant wins at two recent regattas.
First up, a mixed squad of junior, senior and veteran members enjoyed success at the Trentham Boat Club Regatta at the new club house at Trentham Gardens, Stoke.
The event, which was the first to be held at the club for 21 years offered three-lane racing over a 750m course on Trentham Lake.
The club boasted 23 winners and 15 runners up in total, across a range of male, female, junior, senior, single, double and mixed events.
The following day, the veteran members put in a credible performance at the 2009 National Veteran’s Rowing Championships.
The coveted event, held at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham was attended by crews from all over the country and winners Runcorn fought off stiff opposition throughout the day.
Eleven Runcorn Rowing Club members claimed gold medals, with nine other scooping silvers.
Linda Butterworth of Runcorn Rowing Club said: “The squad performed outstandingly.
“Everyone rowed well to achieve these excellent results.”
The club, which is based at Cholmondeley Road in Clifton, is now preparing crews for the Henley Royal Regatta and Runcorn Junior Regatta at the beginning of July.
Runcorn Rowing Club uses the River Weaver Navigation and is affiliated to the Amateur Rowing Association, operating under its rules.
The club was founded in 1894 on land bought from the Marquis of Cholmondeley.
