Crown green bowls: Defeat of Red Lion A at Mouldsworth sees Goshawk A return to Frodsham & District Bowls League summit

GOSHAWK A succeeded Red Lion A as Frodsham & District Bowling League leaders by defeating them in a low-scoring Division One game at Mouldsworth.

The hosts won despite a 21-3 card from Barry Ellams, helped by John Faulkner’s 21-9 victory.

Grapes A remained in third despite a lacklustre defeat at basement team Pavilions A for whom Graham Worthington (21-1) starred.

Wayne Owen’s 21-6 victory inspired Norton Arms B to continue their fine home form – a good victory over Chetwode A keeping them in fourth. Red Lion B, home winners over Tiger’s Head A, climbed to fifth.

Kingswood B (Graham Donnelly 21-4) were too powerful for visiting Castle Park A, whose only winner was Peter White (21-11). Dave Evans (21-4) and Elaine Garner (21-7) gave Helsby D the upper hand over their B team (John Newhouse 21-4) in another low-scoring affair.

It was all change at the head of Division Two, where the top four were all beaten. Halton A hit the summit although beaten at Subscription B with Pavilions B dropping to second. Colin Wass (21-6) was largely responsible for their defeat at Helsby A. There were also setbacks for Willow Brook A and Egerton A, the latter losing to War Memorial B.
