HALTON and Frodsham Harriers joined a winning team as Cheshire girls landed a regional title and the boys in the county squad were not far behind in the final reckoning.
The Aviva North West regional Fun in Athletics Festival was staged at the Manchester Sports City Indoor Arena.
Anabelle Kitchen, Megan McEveley, Jenny Pyatt and Jess Wright were under-11 girls from the club in the Cheshire squad.
H&FH’s Will Fletcher, Jack Peacock, Harry Stubbs and Ben Sutcliffe were part of the Cheshire squad at the same age group.
The Cheshire team were up against strong opposition from seven other North West regional teams but their determination shone through.
The girls were resounding winners of their match and the boys finished third after a close battle.
On the track, Cheshire Girls won five of the seven relay events.
Jess was part of the triumphant 1+1 relay team (22.0 secs) and in the winning six-lap parlauf (68.6 secs).
Anabelle featured in the 4x1 relay squad which won in 46.0secs
Megan was in the 4x1 hurdles relay squad, finishing in 54.6secs
In the grand prix race, Jenny ran the second leg and helped the team to fourth place.
The individual field results were led by Jess’s superb triple jump victory in a PB 6.48mtrs.
Anabelle was third in the standing long jump (1.94m) and Megan was fifth in the vertical jump (41). Jenny’s 14m javelin throw yielded third place.
The Cheshire boys team won three of their track relays.
Harry and Ben were in the 4x1 hurdles relay squad which beat the rest in 52.7secs.
In the grand prix, Ben and Jack were in a four-strong team which finished fourth place points in 62.0secs
Jack’s 18m javelin throw was worth fifth. Ben was the county’s top scorer in the vertical jump, fourth with 41.
