Cons off to flying start

DIVISION One’s Widnes Conservative Club A belatedly got their Widnes & District Snooker League season up and running with an impressive 8-1 win.

Tony Cook won 112-27 while captain Ste Andrews’ 66-34 including a 36 break.

St Bede’s continue to lead after a 7-2 win in which Andy McKay (93-24) and Tommy Naylor (71-34) dominated the first two frames before dependable Brian Kennedy (67-42) anchored them home.

Farnworth A were well-served by John Chamberlain (65-23) and Chris Chapman (69-37) in a 7-2 win at HGSC B (Mark Cueden 31 break).

Stadium A’s 7-2 winners was inspired by early starters Baz Yates (82-30) and Paul Rigby (67-31).

Village A (Ste Millington 78-25, Mark King 44 break) scraped a win, the 5-4 margin being matched by Overton MH for whom Ste Spencer’s 105-10 win and a 70-39 for Mike Lloyd were key and Runcorn Conservative A (Chris Ellams 45-42, Peter Quinn 79-28).

One-time Division Three underachievers Prescot Reform A are running away with it in Division Two.

Their 7-2 dismissal of powerful St Joseph’s B cast Carl Minshall (102-23) in the starring role.

Mill Brow B whitewashed Village B 9-0. Carl Woods won 65-42 but Danny Magee (100-6 with three 20-plus breaks) stole the show.

Ford’s B crushed WCC C courtesy of Paul Dunn (76-32), Ken Yeomans (50-46) and Tony Riccio (30 break).

Widnes Cons C likewise won 8-1 with John Rowan (62-24), Mick Foran (72-44) and Phil Henderson winning handsomely.

Stadium B, possible dark horses, had skipper John Edge (67-9) and Martin Evans (88-25) bossing a 7-2.

Runcorn Conservative B’s 6-3 triumph was spurred by Kieron Durkan (68-25) and Robin Fretwell (61-43).

Farnworth B were 6-3 victors after impressive wins by Norman Beesley (77-25) and Hughie Farrell (55-41).

Mill Brow A’s heroes in a 5-4 win were, predictably, Norman Locke (51-47) and Tony O’Neil (71-42).

Division Three’s Prescot Reform B saw off their visitors 7-2 with Paul Williams (65-39) and new signing K Wilson (61-31) dictating.

Runcorn War Memorial, winners by the same scoreline, were boosted by Andy Relph (86-30), Kyle Burns (103-15) and Lee Gascoigne (70-10).

Village C’s 7-2 win (N Jones 72-33, S Parry 70-45) suggests they have found their feet.

Farnworth C’s 6-3 win was largely down to Jamie King (68-23) and skipper Paul Williams (70-20).

Their D team followed suit with Derek King (53-27) and Ste Brennan (68-17, including a 32 break) calling the tune.

Frank Christopher (45-38) and Michelle Hodson (66-48) got Oddfellows off to a strong start but they had to scramble for a 5-4 verdict as did Village D (captain Gavin Pye 76-38, Col Scholey 88-30).

Young prospect Callum Malloy had a super 39 break in a losing side.
