Halton And District Radio Amateurs to stage raslly at Heath Business Park, Runcorn

HALTON And District Radio Amateurs will hold its first free Amateur Radio Rally in an event aimed at people with an interest in amateur radio or shortwave listening.

The rally at the Heath Business And Technical Park from 10.30am on Saturday, November 17, has been organised by a small group of radio amateurs otherwise known as radio hams, and will provide a opportunity for enthusiasts across the borough to learn more about the hobby.

George Low, on behalf of Halton And District Radio Amateurs, said: “As of this month there are over 79,000 people across the country with amateur radio licenses but we are still rather unknown.

“It’s all about the skill and fascination of communication by radio and hopefully the rally will be a way of getting more people interested.”

A big selection of traders and special interest groups will attend the event including unique groups such as the Blind Radio Amateurs group and Lifeboat Radio Amateurs.

The event will feature a ‘bring and buy’ sale run by the Warrington Amateur Radio Club, where radio amateurs can sell their unused equipment and maybe even pick up a bargain.

George added: “There are rallies all over the country but locally we are lacking in these events. Hopefully radio amateurs from all over the country will come and join us for this free event.”
