Gifts worth £1,000 stolen on Runcorn train

TRANSPORT police have released an image of suspect they want to speak to in connection with the theft of a suitcase containing £1,000-worth of gifts on a Runcorn train.

Investigators said a passenger boarded at Runcorn and took the luggage when he left at Liverpool Lime Street.

Last week British Transport Police appealed for information on the incident, which happened shortly before 5.15pm on Sunday, December 18.

PC Adam Burgess said: “We believe the man captured on CCTV may have important information in relation to this theft and are calling on anyone who recognises him to come forward.

“No crime is welcome on the railway, but theft is particularly vile as it represents a violation of a person’s security. We will do everything we can to trace the man responsible, but we need assistance from the public.”

Witnesses can call British Transport Police on 0800 405 040.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The incident number is B6/NWA of February 13, 2012.
