Cronton Sixth Form College students help with Premier Inn recruitment day in Widnes

A HOTEL’S recruitment drive was given a major boost thanks to the organisational skills of Halton students.

A group from Cronton Sixth Form took the opportunity to develop their event planning expertise by joining forces with Premier Inn, to help organise its efforts to recruit staff for a new hotel and restaurant at The Hive in Widnes.

Students were asked by Jobcentre Plus to help with the recruitment day at Stobart Stadium.

In total the firm had 56 jobs vacancies, with 50 jobs filled on the day.

The students were split into groups and given different tasks to help the day run smoothly.

They were responsible for welcoming applicants and coordinating interview times.

Janet Liversidge from Jobcentre Plus said: “The recruitment day has proved a huge success,Š24 jobseekers were recruited while local students were provided with excellent work experience.

“I would like to thank Premier Inn for providing this invaluable experience.”

Student Abi Delaney said: “We all worked very hard during the day and were very tired by the end but we learnt a lot about how to recruit large numbers of people and also how to act and dress at an interview.”

Premier Inn were also extremely impressed with the students and have subsequently asked them to produce a tourist information pack for the hotel to display in the bedrooms to help guests during their stay.

The pack was presented to Premier Inn by the students recently.

Linda Rubbathan, a Cronton Sixth Form tutor who helped organise the day said: “It was fantastic to see the students involved in such a large scale recruitment day.

!They were able to put all of the skills they had learnt in the classroom into practice and learn so much more to help them with their course.

!It was great to see how they benefited from taking part in a real project and we hope to continue working with Premier Inn in the future.”
