Tamper-proof number plate screws offered to motorists in Runcorn crime-busting scheme
MOTORISTS in Runcorn are being urged to protect their cars’ identities and help to prevent crime.
Cheshire Constabulary has teamed up with Polar Ford on Victoria Road to alert drivers about free fitting of anti-tamper number plate screws.
The move follows a rise in thefts of the registration plates.
The thefts are often linked to petrol station drive-offs and speeding ticket evasion.
Stolen number plates are also used by criminals to falsely identify vehicles so that they can be used in fuel thefts, tax and insurance avoidance and burglaries.
Sergeant Andrew Miller said: “We are grateful for schemes that combat the problem. Using the screws will make it much harder for plates to be stolen.”
The screw fitting session takes place on Thursday, February 9.
