Eddie Stobart warns Halton residents about dangers of sun through window

LOGISTICS giant Stobart has teamed up with Northwest Cancer Research Fund (NWCRF) in a bid to ‘ban the trucker tan’.

Glass windows do not provide screening from UVA rays – the harmful component of sunlight – and research carried out over the last three years has shown that in some cases, skin cancers are not appearing evenly on the body, just on the driver’s side of the body, nearest the car window.

Under the partnership Eddie Stobart and NWCRF will be providing education sun safety information to all new drivers starting apprenticeships at the state-of-the-art Eddie Stobart Training Academy to ensure that they are aware of the harm the sun can cause.

The organisations are also aiming to raise awareness of the dangers nationwide, and NWCRF is encouraging people to wear skin protection if they face any prolonged exposure to the sun, even if it is through a car window.

Neale Burdon, Eddie Stobart Training Academy resource and training manager, said: “Eddie Stobart has a firm commitment to driver education and ensuring the safety of our drivers on the road. We were very keen to be a part of NWCRF’s campaign to highlight the risks from sun exposure, and include the lessons of their research in our extensive education programme at the Eddie Stobart Training Academy.

“We hope this will encourage other firms to follow suit and incorporate sun safety as part of their driver training programmes.”
