A CHESTER City football match had to be called off after fans invaded the pitch in protest against former Widnes Vikings chairman Stephen Vaughan.
The Chester FC boss was recently disqualified from holding the post of company director for 11 years after he was allegedly involved in a type of VAT fraud known as ‘Carousel Fraud’ during his time at the Widnes club.
Protesters ran on to the pitch with banners calling for the removal of Mr Vaughan from the crisis-hit Chester club. Stewards escorted the supporters off the pitch before play resumed, but when there was a second pitch invasion by protesters the match was abandoned.
