WREN and Lottery funding helps restore Hale Park to the glory of yesteryear
THE grand opening of the new-look Hale Park in the wake of its £400,000 revamp took place last week.
Research carried out by local historians has ensured its authentic historic features have been faithfully restored.
More than £400,000 of Lottery and WREN cash has been spent on the regeneration work, which had been years in the planning.
On Friday, August 21, crowds gathered for a special opening ceremony which featured a tai chi demonstration, and refreshments were provided by the Friends of Hale Park group.
The park now includes enhanced landscape features inspired by material sourced from local historians – features incorporate the original colours and designs from the old Hale Hall site.
Areas for wildlife have been created including a wetland to encourage plants, birds and insects, and further work will improve the area for nature and to provide local viewpoints to the surrounding areas.
Anthony Brandreth has been appointed as the Hale Heritage Champion – a role created to celebrate and promote the local area and its history.
He will be working closely with the friends group, local residents and historians.
Anthony said: “It’s an exciting time for Hale and its residents, and great to see the park so full.
“Visitor numbers are on the increase and now is the time for people to become involved.
“We are in the process of producing a programme of events and activities to suit all groups and ages.
“People’s suggestions would be very welcome.”
