Halton walkers take up twilight challenge for Halton Haven Hospice

CHARITABLE Halton residents gave up their Saturday evenings last week to join in Halton Haven’s Twilight Walk.

More than 700 walkers took part in the fundraiser, which saw them cover the eight kilometres from Spike Island to Wigg Island and back again, via the Silver Jubilee Bridge.

Sean Pollard, director of Halton Haven, who care for the terminally ill across the borough, was delighted with the efforts of residents.

He said: “We were only expecting 300 walkers so to get over 700 was a fantastic response.

“The idea for the walk came about while we were carrying out our business plan for this year and it will now be an annual event.

“We wanted to do something that would link the two communities that we serve.”

ITV’s Paul Krone was on hand to officially start the race at 9pm.

Sponsorship money is still being collected and the hospice hope to collect in the region of £50,000.

One walker said: “It was a great walk for a great cause.”
