Cheshire Fire Service run event at Victoria Park, Widnes, for Child Safety Week

FIRE safety lessons for children take centre stage next week with a series of events being run across Halton.

Cheshire Fire Service joined forces with Child Safety Week and invited school pupils to visit its fire stations.

Safety demonstrations also take place at Victoria Park, Widnes, on Wednesday, June 24.

And Runcorn primary school pupils from the Windmill Hill, Woodside and Westfield will be visiting the town’s fire station on Heath Road.

Mark Cashin, deputy chief fire officer, said: “It’s important that parents talk to their children about fire safety and set a good example.”

“Explaining the importance of having a smoke alarm and testing it weekly, for example, can significantly reduce the devastating consequences of having an accidental house fire.”
