School delegation returns from China

A DELEGATION from St Chad’s Catholic High School has returned from China.

The three staff and 12 students set up base camp at Tong Ling No. 3 School in the Anhui province, and from there they visited the Shanghai World Financial Centre, which is the world’s tallest roofed building at 492 metres, Tiananmen Square, the Yellow Mountains and the Great Wall.

A school spokesman said they returned tired but exhilarated, but the real highlight was the warmth and hospitality of the people they met.

Tong Ling No. 3 also asked St Chad’s to become partners by setting up a Confucius programme.

Andrew Keeley, headteacher, said: “The link St Chad's has with Tong Ling has now been established for many years and on each reciprocal visit we feel we are back among friends.

“This is the key purpose of the whole school international programme.

He added: “The Confucius programme is a great honour for both schools and recognises the quality and rarity of such links.

“Only 150 schools out of the many thousands in China have been honoured in this way."
