New scheme asks: ‘Anyone for tennis?’

WOMEN and the over 50s in Halton are being encouraged to take up table tennis after the borough won a major grant to help promote the sport.

The scheme will encourage women and girls of all ages and the over 50s of both sexes to improve their fitness, co-ordination and have some fun by learning table tennis.

Sessions are being held on Monday mornings between 11am and noon at Halton Regional Table Tennis Centre, Stobart Stadium, Lowerhouse Lane, Widnes, aimed at anyone over 50-years-old.

Other sessions take place on Mondays between 7-8pm and offer a chance for women and girls to try the game. All that is needed for sessions is a pair of training shoes and £1 per person.

Table tennis has taken off in the borough since the founding of Halton Table Tennis Club in 1999.

And Halton Regional Table Tennis Centre at Stobart Stadium has been listed as an approved training centre for Olympic and Paralympic teams.
