HALTON’s MP is encouraging those at risk of contracting the flu bug to be vaccinated this winter.
Derek Twigg led by example by having his own flu vaccination.
Mr Twigg said: “People at risk should visit their GP surgeries for a free flu vaccination.
“Flu vaccination plays an important role in protecting those people who are more susceptible to serious complications from the condition.”
Last year 73.4 % of people over 65 and 47 % in “at risk” groups were vaccinated against flu in Halton and St Helens.
Up to 4,000 deaths in the UK each year are now attributed to the bug.
