CRIME in Halton has fallen by 3% in the period September 2007-August 2008 compared with the same period the previous year.
Statistics presented last night to a meeting of Halton’s Have Your Say police meeting showed there were 403 fewer crimes in the borough over the period.
Figures for the key crime categories over the same period were also considered.
Domestic burglaries increased by 5% with 30 more crimes recorded, violent crime was down by 6% (171 fewer incidents) vehicle crime fell by 3% with (37 fewer incidents) and criminal damage rose by 3% (85 more incidents).
The meeting also heard that the detection rates in the northern policing area, which incorporates Widnes, Runcorn and Warrington, is now at 28.5% - the best rate in Cheshire.
Last year 26% of crimes were detected in Halton.
