THE RSPCA is warning anglers not to leave their used fishing line lying around as it causes a danger to animals.
The warning comes after a wood pigeon was found hanging from its broken legs after becoming entangled in discarded fishing line.
The line was draped across a tree which hangs over a pond next to the Brooker Centre at Halton Hospital.
Tree surgeon NorthWest Trees volunteered its services to try to rescue the bird.
But it had suffered two broken legs due to its entanglement and the RSPCA had it put down.
Sonia Hulme, from the RSPCA animal collection in Halton, said: “There was a huge amount of fishing line just left lying around.
“Hopefully now when people see this instance they will realise what damage they are doing.”
