THE NUMBER of deaths related to the swine flu pandemic in the North West has risen to 21.
The figure represents an increase of seven deaths since the numbers were last reported at the end of October.
The statistic was released by the chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson, who revealed that nationally 142 people have died as a result of swine flu since the outbreak of the virus in April.
In Halton and St Helens, 81 assessments were made using the National Pandemic Flu Service on November 19.
During the same time 67 unique reference numbers and 63 anti-virals were issued, underlining the increased scale of the problem.
