Runcorn students at Sir John Deane’s College celebrate A level results

SIR John Deane’s College is celebrating its best A Level results – with its 609 upper sixth students achieving a 99% pass rate.

SJD, which is nationally-recognised as a Beacon college, also saw a rise in the number of top grades – with over a quarter of all exam results at A or A*.

Students Hannah O’Donovan, Sarah Ainsworth and Rachel Grannell, all from Runcorn, took home A*s in their law A Levels. Hannah also took home an A* in ICT and an A in history, Sarah secured As in psychology and business studies and Rachel went home with a second A* in psychology and another A in business studies.

Katrina Walker, from Runcorn, achieved two As, a B and a C in her A Levels.

The 17-year-old achieved the grades in art, chemistry, maths and physics and is now looking forward to studying chemistry at Leeds University.

The former Frodsham College pupil said: “I am really pleased.

“I wasn’t sure about my physics grade.

“I never thought I would get this far but I did it!”

George Priestley, from Runcorn, scored straight As in maths, further maths and physics.

Andrew Jones, college principal, said: “I am delighted to be able to say that once again our students are celebrating an excellent set of results.

“It has been rewarding to see so many smiling faces around college today, especially as there is significant pressure to achieve good results with such fierce competition for university places.

“The results again reflect the hard work and dedication of our students, the care of parents and the high quality guidance and teaching of SJD staff.”

The overall pass rate was 99% – with 7.1% of upper sixth students achieving the new A* grade. Of the 1,839 A-levels taken by these students, 26.4% of results were at A or A star.

The vast majority of this summer’s leavers will now be going on to universities across the country, with others going straight into employment or taking a year out before progressing into higher education.
