A RUNCORN mum shed a tear when she was named Trinity Mirror Cheshire Champion of Champions for her campaign to stop loan sharks and help their victims.Read

KAREN Tonge was Weekly News winner in the sport category.

Karen and her husband Ken moved to Runcorn in 1971 to take charge of the former Castlefields Youth Centre as youth leaders. Since then, she has championed sport in general and table tennis in particular as a highly-respected coach, official and administrator.Read

THE Weekly News winner of the school category is St Basil’s Catholic Primary, Widnes, which beat 600 other UK schools in a national healthy living competition.

Some of the pupils were invited to No.10 Downing Street to receive their award from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.Read
