Jason to take the Brindley by storm

The Brindley will open its doors to one of Britain’s rising comic stars later this month. Jason Manford, of hit TV show 8 out of 10 Cats, will bring his own brand of observational comedy to the venue on October 17 as part of a UK tour.

And the former XFM Manchester breakfast show presenter said he is looking forward to returning to a town that has provided inspiration for some of his latest material.

He said: “The last time I came to Runcorn was to watch my mate perform, at, I think, the old British Legion, for a TV series which took new comics to old venues and vice versa.

“I remember sitting down, only for a family to come over and tell me that I had to move because I was using ‘their table’ which I thought was a bit out of order.

“So I said: ‘What, have you got your name on it or something?’

“To which they replied ‘Yes actually’ and proceeded to show me their family plaque on the table.

“I couldn’t believe it!”

Fresh off the back of a three-month stint at the Edinburgh Festival and currently working on a new sitcom, the ex-Salford University student is expecting plenty of crowd interaction when he arrives in the borough.

He added: “There’s no real theme to my show and I suppose if it had a name it would just be ‘funny things that I think in my head’.

“But then I think they charge you per word for the tour title!”
